The bright sunlight glinted off of the mirror-like placidity of Lake Tahoe on the day of Jasmine and Kevin’s wedding, illuminating the softly swaying grasses along the fringe of Lakeside Beach as the final touches were placed on the ceremony space. At the nearby Postmarc Hotel, the bride and her entourage were preparing for the long awaited moment, which many joked was much overdue. As the hairspray flew and the bubbly flowed, the bride read from a handcrafted burlap album containing handwritten letters from her bridal party and loved ones. The emotion in the room was palpable, and the ladies were giddy as we snapped photographs of them in their matching bridal party robes under the flowing white canopy. Meanwhile, Kevin and his groomsmen, decked out in cream suits and aqua ties, joked around under the canopy of the pine trees.
Soon the couple and their wedding party were whisked to Lakeside Beach, where they and their guests were greeted by rows of prim white chairs adorned with flowing aqua tulle and coral roses tied with raffia. At the end of the long burlap runner stood the ceremony arch – a beautiful wooden structure that perfectly framed the couple against the bright waters of Lake Tahoe. A starfish featured prominently at the pinnacle of the arch, a symbol that has deep personal meaning for the couple. The bridal party looked exotic in their varying shades of coral pinks, their round, cheerful bouquets gripped firmly in two hands. The groomsmen stood at attention, the bright coral of their boutonnieres contrasting playfully with the bright aqua of their ties. Jaws dropped as Jasmine walked down the isle in her dreamy bohemian lace gown. Jasmine’s grandmother blessed the union by performing a smudging ceremony, enveloping the couple in the sweetly pungent smoke from her sage bundle. Vows were said and rings were exchanged under the heat of the August sun, and soon it was time to celebrate!
Jasmine had put an enormous amount of effort in to the details, hand making the majority of the decorations for her wedding. Her efforts had transformed the reception space at the Blue Angel Café in to a quaint and calming getaway. She expertly carried her beachy color scheme of corals, aqua and turquoise throughout her décor. The pops of bright color were elegantly offset by sandy tans and browns. She utilized burlap as table runners, giving the space strong textural accents. Mason jars tied with raffia and filled with colorful flowers sat happily atop the tables as sea shells popped out from behind the seating cards. Personalized fans were provided to keep the guests cool on this airy summer day.
As guests filed in to the space, we stole the bridal party away to capture some photographs in a nearby meadow. The sandy gold of the grasses were a clean and simple backdrop as we photographed the bright and cheery colors of the wedding party’s getup. Soon we let the group head to meet the rest of the wedding guests, so we could capture the bride and groom alone. Jasmine and Kevin were grateful to have a moment to take in the day in one another’s company exclusively. They strolled along the sandy dunes of the shoreline, and rested for a short pause together on the dock as they reveled in their love.
Jasmine and Kevin are long time clients of the studio, and we have been so very fortunate to see their family, and their love, grow. They’ve come a long way since we first photographed their newborn son, and we can’t wait to watch them continue to evolve together in the years to come. Congratulations Jasmine and Kevin; we wish you a lifetime of happiness!
